all have wonderful temperaments and Herding ability. We are determined to produce
great working dogs that are a joy to live with. Physical soundness and Health
are a high priority also. We OFA at one year old for
a Prelim rating, and do 2 year old X-Rays for the permanent OFA
rating. We will only breed dogs that have Excellent and Good hips. Eyes are CERF
tested prior to each breeding. Our females are only bred once per year and
sometimes not that often. We spay them after their last litter. Lock-Eye Ladies
all whelp inside our home in a loving environment. I can always be found "camping
out" next to the whelping box holding the momma's paw during birthing. The
majority of births are video taped coming into this world and new owners love
seeing their little ones being born! See Pearl
giving birth video clips. Once the puppies are born, they are assisted
out of the sack and cleaned off with a towel. We assure that each puppy has nursed
and then remove the dewclaws. If done right at birth, it is less stressful than
waiting for 3 days and being taken to the vet. (AND exposing your puppies and
dam to the diseases ever present at the Vet's office) When the puppies are
4 weeks old, the real fun begins. Visit our Lock-Eye puppy
page for a full description of our training process. To watch video clips

Lock-Eye Pearl
Lock-Eye Pearl is out of our foundation
bitch, Kit and is sired by Kathy Knox's Bob. Pearl's name came from being born
on Pearl Harbor day. (Dec 7th, 1994 is her date of birth.) Pearl began her herding
career at 10 months old. I was planning to wait until she was one year old before
starting her training. She had other ideas. We were picking up rocks in the pasture
one day when she saw our flock of sheep (about 40 head). She proceeded to go around
the sheep in a picture perfect outrun, so I waited to see if she would fetch them
to me or have dinner. Pearl showed me that she was a totally natural
working dog. She brought them to me without a "storm." Nice and easy.
I let her fetch the sheep to me a few times and then we took our bucket of rocks
and left the field. As she matured in training and progressed to cattle, the real
test came. Pearl would counter a cow's challenge with a bite to the end of the
nose and then let the cows walk off without any "Cheap Shots" on her
part. Many dogs really love to stir up trouble, but it is a real dog who can move
cow/calf pairs without a fight. Pearl is a true gem. Pearl also heels low. I have
kept several of her offspring to carry on her legacy. SEE

Lock-Eye Dazzle
Dazzle is a littermate to Lock-Eye
Patches, Lock-Eye Blaze and Lock-Eye Buff. They are out of Pearl and sired by
Hatsoff Bill, winner of the 2000 Lone Star Cattle Dog Futurity, Maturity class.
Dazzle is a very keen dog on stock and is easy to handle. All the puppies from
this breeding (Pearl x Bill) have what it takes and are great stock dogs. Dazzle's
hips are OFA Good and CERF'd Normal.
Next
planned breeding: Dec,'03 (undecided on her beau at this time) |
Lock-Eye Vip
Lock-Eye Vip is one of our most aggressive
cattle dogs. She bites right on the nose and heels low, yet she is under enough
control to work sheep well. Vip has produced some very talented cattle dogs. Lock-Eye
Ivy and Lock-Eye Flame are her daughters. Lock-Eye Cash is a Vip son. They are
excellent cattle dogs, hitting both ends. After her litter
in 2003, she will be spayed and retired from breeding. Vip's
hips are OFA Excellent and her eyes are CERF'd
normal yearly.

Lock-Eye Ivy
Lock-Eye Ivy is now back at Lock-Eye
Border Collies! She was sold as a trained dog when she was a year and a half old
to work on a cow/calf operation. She was a great asset to the rancher, who has
now retired. Ivy is a Vip daughter and is sired by Gary Ericson's Scot dog. Scot
was a tough cattle dog who often gathered fresh, wild cattle. Ivy has Vip's ability
to bite the nose of a cow and she heels low also. She makes working cattle look
effortless, always bringing 'em in without a hassle. One bite usually turns the
herd for good in the desired direction. She has a never quit working
attitude and is always looking for stock. She can almost work her mother
in the ground. She is short haired and traditionally marked. Ivy has a very
sweet disposition with humans, despite her ability to bite cows. Sometimes people
who aren't around BC's that work cattle don't realize that they aren't aggressive
with humas. They are bred to work with their shepherd and they know the difference.
Ivy produces red and white, red tri and bi black puppies. Her puppies are both
long and short coated. Ivy is OFA Good and CERF'd
normal. Ivy's dam (Vip) is OFA Excellent and her sire is OFA Good. The more
generations of hip and eye tested ancestors there are in a dog's pedigree helps
assure that there aren't any problems "in the lines."
Ivy's last litter (Sired by Lazer)
was only 2 pups. Ivy is now bred to Lazer and will have puppies on Sept 7th,2003
Lock-Eye Mad Dash and Lock-Eye Bullet--Ivy Lazer puppies from last fall's breeding.

wonderful little lady! She is very biddable on stock and is a playing fool away
from them. She loves everyone she meets. She works both cattle and sheep with
style. Spice moves her stock without a fight. She is OFA Good and CERF'd Normal.

Spice
is now confirmed pregnant . She is bred to Hillcrest Mick! Due on August 4th,2003 |
Roxy
Roxy is unrelated to any of my dogs. I purchased
her (and her 4 week old puppies that were sired by Lock-Eye Ed) in the summer
of 2002. Her breeding is total cattle dog lines and her temperament and working
ability is what attracted me to her. The first time I put her on stock she went
out and did a picture perfect outrun! The man I bought her from didn't work her
on stock at all and she was allowed to run free most of the time. Her first owner
"might" have worked her some. She is an excellent mother and the folks
who have Roxy X Ed puppies just love them! Roxy is OFA Good and CERF'd Normal.
Roxy is now bred to Lock-Eye Bronze.
She is due on August 24th,2003 |
Lock-Eye Kit
Kit is the reason many of the dogs I have exist! She was our foundation bitch
and wonderful.
Lock-Eye Kit and her Sister, Clover were our first
Border Collies. They were bought to train and show in obedience, as well as herding. I
was working at Siloam Springs Veterinary Clinic in Arkansas. (I worked there for
7 years) One of our clients, (Dennis Chamberlain) came in and said he had bought
a trained Border Collie to gather his beef cattle. She was pregnant and wanted
me to pass the word. I said that I thought it would be fun to train a dog to work
cattle, so I bought two! The first Border Collie I
saw work was their Mother, Rose. She was a very honest worker. Never using excessive
force, but enough to get the job done. She worked everything from Chickens to
Bulls. Later, Rose was purchased by Dwain Thompson, of Huntsville, AR. Dwain showed
her in many trials and did well. (Dwain won the first National Cattle Dog Finals
in Alabama, 2001 with his dog Tee) I decided to show
Clover in obedience and train Kit for herding. I had Clover completely trained
for her CD title and was ready to start taking her to shows. Since the breed wasn't
AKC registered yet, you had to get an ILP (indefinite listing privilege) to show
them and they also have to be spayed. To do that you had to send in their registration
papers from the registry they were with and two photos. Front and side views.
The application came back saying she did not look like a Border Collie to be given
an ILP! Oh, was I mad!!! They obviously didn't judge a Border Collie on it's working
ability at all! Not a Border Collie, MY FOOT! I wanted to send AKC a video of
her on stock! She and Kit were both 100 % natural! Anyway, I trained them both
on livestock and never looked back! Clover was sold to a local Angus rancher where
she was their right arm until they retired from the cattle business. She now helps
them chase the geese off the lawn at their new lake home. Sadly,
Kit died two years ago, but she lives on in her many offspring. Lock-Eye Pearl
is one of them, as well as Jack King's Casey. Jack and Casey placed 2nd in the
2001 National Cattle Dog Nursery Finals! Casey was originally called "Cash-Eye"
because of a blue eye like her Sire, Lock-Eye Cash. I
am grateful that Kit came into my life. She was a solid foundation for generations
of great cattle dogs! She was OFA certified
